A new generation of WLAN equipment is emerging that promises to address security issues as well as RF planning and management challenges to deployment. For some time now, WLANs have been seen as the next great leap forward in networking, and have been generating tremendous interest from potential users in the enterprise. That's understandable given the greater mobility and flexibility WLANs can provide and the potential productivity and cost benefits for businesses. But while WLANs may be at the top of the wish list in the enterprise market, so far deployment issues have kept those wishes from becoming reality. With all of the benefits and ever-increasing user expectations for wireless in the workplace, IT managers clearly must be able to deploy WLANs in the enterprise - and the sooner, the better.
